ඇ, n. The third vowel of the alphabet, though in some grammars and vocabularies this and the next are placed last of all. Its sound is a modification of අ, and like the sound of a in fat, bat, mat. Its non-initial form is (ැ) following the consonant it vocalizes, as කැබ්, cab.

ඇඟ බද්ද, n. poll-tax, head-money, capitation.

ඇටුවන, n. hollow or hole in a tree from decay, tree-hollow; pl. ඇටුවන්.

ඇපය, n. security, bail, pledge.

ඇලලෙනවා, v. i. to be tossed about, agitated, චංචලවෙනවා, කැලඹෙනවා; pret. ඇලලුනා.

ඇළි වඳුරා, n. white monkey, semnapithicus theraites.

ඇඟ, ඇඟපත, n. the body, bodily frame, ශරීරය.

ඇත් මද, n. exudation from the temples &c. of elephants when in rut.

ඇණිය, n. the stem or bow of a ship or boat.

ඇත්පැටවා, ඇත්පැටියා, ඇත්පොව්වා, n. young elephant, elephant calf.
