අශ්ව කර්‍ණය, n. lit. horse-ear, a plant (see Bot.); name of the seventh circle of rocks around Maha Mera: see සප්තකූට පර්‍වත.

අස්තය, n. setting of the sun &c., ඉරබැසීම; end of life, මරණය; seventh sign of the zodiac.

උ, n. The seventh vowel of the alphabet. Its sound is that of oo in Foot. Its non-initial forms /?/ and ු called පාපිල්ල—lower or foot piece—are placed below the consonant they vocalize, as කු, මු, koo, moo.

ඡ, n. The seventh ronaonant of the alphabet. It is the preceding letter aspirated, expressed by chha and pronounced like ch in fetch-ham, allowing the h in ham to coalesce with the preceding ch.

නි·ධනය, n. loss, හානිය; death. මරණය; race, family, වංශය; seventh lunar asterism.

ප්‍රමාදි, n. forty-seventh year of the Indian cycle of sixty.

පුන·ර්‍වසු, n. seventh lunar asterism, consisting of two stars or according to some authorities of four, පුනාවස.

භද්‍රා, n. astrological period so called, said to be unlucky: see විෂ්ටිය; the Ganges of heaven, සුරගඟ; ap. of the second, seventh and twelfth days of the lunar fortnight; cow, එළදෙන. Bot.

වලහන්, වාලහන්, n. wages paid in kind for reaping and threshing, usually one seventh of the produce.

වි·ජය, n. (වි emp., ජි to conquer), victory, ජය; a sort of spear; ap. of king අර්ජුන and of යම, name also of that famous king of the ශාක්‍ය race who came to Ceylon with 700 followers, subdued the inhabitants, brought settlers from India and established the Sinhalese Monarchy; car of the gods, දිව්‍යරථය; twenty-seventh year of the Indian cycle of sixty-years.

විෂ්ටිය, n. hire, කුලිය; sending, යැවීම; torments of hell, අපායේ වධය; seventh of the variable cycles or astrological periods, each consisting of half a lunar day.

වෛවස්වත, n. ap. of Yama, යම, and of the seventh Manu or Manu of this age and first king of India, සත්වෙනි මනු; the planet Saturn, ශනිග්‍රහයා, සෙනසුරා.

ශ, n. The first of the seventh or sibilant class of letters. It is a palatal sibilant and its true sound is probably a light Sh as heard in the word Cession; but in general usage it does not differ from the dental ස. Some words are written either with ශ or ස.

ශ්‍රී·මුඛ, n. (ශ්‍රී prosperous, මුඛ mouth, chief), beautiful mouth, යහපත්මුඛය; seventh year of the Indian cycle.

ෂ, n. The second of the seventh or sibilant class of consonants, expressed by Sh.
