එපා, part. (probably from ඒ පහ – that aside): signifying with first pers. dat. case, not wanted, will not accept; with 2nd pers. nom. case as an auxiliary after the infinitive mood it is prohibitive, as උඹ or උඹලා යන්ට එපා, Go thou or ye not.

තහනම, n. prohibition, embargo, interdiction, inhibition, veto.

තහනම්·පත්‍රය, n. prohibitory document, inhibition.

තහනම්·බලය, n. power of prohibition, lien, veto.

තහනම්අරිනවා, v. to remove the prohibition, countermand.

තහනම්කරනවා, v. t. to forbid, prohibit, interdict, inhibit; බඩු තහනම්කරනවා, distrain.

ද්වි·විධ·ශීල, n. pl. the two kinds of religions ordinances: positive and negative, viz. චාරිත්ත, observances, and වාරිත්ත, prohibitions or things to be avoided.

න, prefix, with a negative, privative or prohibitive force. Its normal form is නො, as නොකර, but its vowel is varied according to the vowel which follows and sometimes is merely න‍. Thus නාරින for නොඅරින, නෑර, for නොඇර, නේන for නොඑන, නූපන් for නො උපන්, නුදුටු &c., but not නී, as නොඉල්ලා, not නීල්ලා.

නහමක්, ad. as negative or prohibitive, නො, එපා: as නහමක් කරව for නොකරව.
