ඇත, ඇති, v. There is or are; there is or are enough, sufficit; used also as a verb aux.: with the present, to express the future; with the preterite, to express the perfect with diffidence; with the infinitive to express probability, as ඔහු යන්ට ඇත, He must have — has probably—gone.

එපා, part. (probably from ඒ පහ – that aside): signifying with first pers. dat. case, not wanted, will not accept; with 2nd pers. nom. case as an auxiliary after the infinitive mood it is prohibitive, as උඹ or උඹලා යන්ට එපා, Go thou or ye not.

ඛුරය, n. razor, දැළිපිහිය; hoof, කුරය; foot of a bedstead; hoof-shaped perfume (probably dried shell-fish of that shape); a drug, සක්නෑබ.

ගෞතම, n. proper name of Buddha and of the race from which he descended; name of a sage or rishi, from whom the lineage of Buddha probably derived their name.

පරි·ශංකනීය, a. (පරි emp.), very doubtful, improbable, අනුමාන.

පරි·ශංකනීයතාව, n. improbability.

මඟුල්·සල්, probably a sp. of සල් or හල්, which see.

මහා·රාෂ්ට්‍රය, n. lit. great country viz. Maharta, probably the west and north-west province of India, bounded on the North by Guzarat and the Narbuda river.

මී·මිනි·බිරි, n. (මී probably from මහ), great-granddaughter, මිනිබිරිගේ or මුනුබුරාගේ දුව.

යවනය, n. name of country, probably Greece; applied by late H. writers to Arabia; speed, velocity, ජවනය, වේගය.

රෙහෙණ, n. the fourth lunar asterism, consisting of five stars, probably of Taurus and representing a carriage.

වර·තික්ත, a bitter medicinal plant, probably වල්පත්පාඩගම්.

වැල·දඹ, probably a sp. of jambu or වල් ජම්බු.

ශ, n. The first of the seventh or sibilant class of letters. It is a palatal sibilant and its true sound is probably a light Sh as heard in the word Cession; but in general usage it does not differ from the dental ස. Some words are written either with ශ or ස.

ශාලි·වාහන, n. (ශාලි fr. ශාල sal tree or wood), ap. of a king of India, enemy of වික්‍රමාදිත්‍ය and founder of the Saka or ශක්‍ය era in A. D. 78. It is said the name refers to his being carried on a cross of sal wood; this, together with his history and character, is probably derived from some knowledge of Christ's life.
