අ ගබ්හ සෙය්‍යාව, n. freedom from re-incarnation, state attained by Rahats through B. observances.

අ ව්‍යවහාර්‍ය්‍ය, a. not to be observed or practised, ව්‍යවහාර නොකටයුතු, not customary, ව්‍යවහාර නැති.

අ විවේක, a. indiscriminating, වෙනසනොදකින, unobservant, inconsiderate, විපරම්නොකරන.

අගු බලන්නා n. spy, secret observer; king's food-taster.

අටල්ල, n. high stand, scaffold, as an observatory for the field watchman, &c; pl. අටලු.

අවේක්ෂණය, අවේක්ෂාව, n. seeing, දැකිම, looking at, observing, observation, attention, බැලිම, බලාගැනිම.

අෂ්ටාංග ශිලය, n. B., the eightfold observance හඬ. or virtue, viz. observance of the eight commands of Buddha: to abstain from ප්‍රාණ ඝාතය, හොරකම, ස්ත්‍රීසේවනය, බොරුකීම, මද්‍ය පානය බීම, ඉරමුදුන් වේලාවට පසු ආහාරකෑම, නැටීම ගීකීම ආදිය කිරීම, උස්වු or මහ ඇඳන් වල සැතපිම. See each.

ආකාසෝ කසින, n. P., ascetic observance or attainment so called, viz, fixing the mind exclusively upon the element of air. See පරිකසින.

ආ‍‍පෝ ක්සිනය, n. (ආ‍‍පෝ fr. ආප: water), supen natural power over the humours of the body, attained by ascetic meditation; ascetic observance or attainment so called, viz. fixing the mind exclusively upon the element of water. See පරිකසින.

ඉන්ද්‍රිය සං වර ශීලය, n. practice of the subjugation of the senses, which is the second of the four observances (චතුපාරිශුඬිශීල) of B. P.

උපාසිකාව, n. fem, of උපාසකයා: female devoted to the strict observance of Buddhism.

උපේක්ෂා පාරමිතාව, n. B., attainment or observance of stoicism or perfect indifference to all things: see පාරමිතාව.

උපෝසථ ශීල, n. pl. the eight observances of B. to be kept on පෝයදින: see අටසිල්.

කසිණ පරිකර්‍මය, කසිණ ප්‍රසාධනය, n. observance of the disk-ordinance or necessaries of the disk-ordinance in meditation. See the next word also.

ක්ලේශය, n. any passion, desire or evil affection, අභිලාෂය, කෙලෙස්; sorrow, affliction, care, දුක. B. teaches that ක්ලේශය or desire is the root of all sin and sorrow, and renders transmigration and continued existence inevitable until all ක්ලේශ are subdued and exterminated; when that is accomplished නිර්‍වාණ or non-existence is attained. The non-attainment of it,—that is, continued conscious existence,—is regarded as a calamity, and it is the supreme object of B. and its laws and observances to effect the extermination of ක්ලේශ.
