අ වර්‍ණ, n. pl. the vowels අ and ආ: අයන්න, ආයන්න.

අඩස්සිය, n. imprisonment (see හිරඅඩස්සිය); constriction, tightness, shortness (of breath), stoppage, stricture, obstruction, (of the bowels).

අති විරේකය, n. purging, looseness of the bowels, diarrhœa, අතිසාරය.

අතුණු, n. pl. or a. bowels, entrails; bowel-, enteric, intestinal, splanchnic; බඩවැල්.

අතුණු දැවිල්ල, n. inflammation of the bowels, enteritis, බඩවැල් දැවිල්ල.

අන්ත්‍ර, n. pl. or a. bowels, entrails; bowel, intestinal, enteric, splanchnic; බඩවැල්.

අන්ත්‍ර වෘඬිය, n. rupture, hernia of the bowels.

අමුණ, n. grain measure of five or six bushels; a measure of land as much as an amuna of grain will sow, viz. from 2 to 2½ acres; pl. අමුණු.

අෂ්ට ගුලම, n. pl. eight internal diseases (of the bowels &c).

ඇණතියාගන්නවා, v. to squat down on one's heels.

ඇසිරි, n. pl. or a. E. of ආර්‍ශචර්‍ය්‍ය: marvels, marvellous.

උක්කුටිකයෙන් ඉන්නවා, v. to squat, couch, ඇණ ඉන්නවා, sit on the heels.

උදර රෝගකාර,උදර රෝගී, a. dropsical; diseased in stomach or bowels; බඩේ රෝගයක් ඇති.

කටපයාදිය, n. (ක, ට, ප, ය, ආදිය). A mnemonic system of letters nsed as numerals, කටපය being the first column, thus: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 ක ඛ ග ඝ ඬ ච ඡ ජ ඣ ඤ ට ඨ ඩ ඪ ණ ත ථ ද ධ න ප ඵ බ භ ම ය ර ල ව ශ ෂ ස හ ළ. Each letter in each column represents the figure under which it is placed. The above consonants must in reading be vocalized with vowels, though the vowels count for nothing. E. g., ගජකම, reading backwards=5 1 8 3.
