අ, n. The first letter of the Alphabet. It varies bightly in pronunciation, depending sometimes on the meaning or derivation and sometimes on the consonants with which it is combined. It is (1) the clear, distinct sound obtained by shortening ආ ah; (2) the sound of a in negative or miracle. In initial syllables the sound is generally the first of these; the second arises from the dropping of the voice in the unaccented syllables. It is written only when it is the initial letter of a word, but is pronounced after every consonant to which no other vowel is attached, or where it is not suppressed by the sign ්, as කරනවා, karanavā, the final vowel අ, which is long, alone being written;කරන් karan, the vowel අ after න being suppressed by the sign ්.

අ ගම්‍ය, a. that ought not to be approached; inaccessible, unattainable, ළංවිය නොයුතු or නොහැකි.

අ ඥාන ගෝචර, a. accordant with folly, suitable for or accepted by the ignorant, foolish.

අ පරී ගෘහීත, a. unaccepted, unassented to, නොපිළිගන්නලද.

අ ප්‍රති ගෘහණිය, a. not to be accepted, unacceptable, පිළිගැනීමට නොසෑහෙන.

අ ප්‍රාප්‍ය, a. unattainable, ප්‍රාප්තවිය නොහැකිවූ, unobtainable, ලබාගත නොහැකිවූ, inaccessible, නොපැමිණිය හැකිවූ.

අ ස්වරිත, a. unaccented; unarticulated. E.S.

අධි වාසනය, n. perfuming the person, සුවඳ ගැල් වීම; acceptance. පිළිගැනීම; residing, වාසය කෙරීම.

අධි වාසනාකරනවා, v. t. to accept, පිළිගන්නවා; take charge of, භාරගන්නවා; tolerate, ඉව සනවා

අනාගම්‍ය, a. (අන් ආගම්‍ය), inaccessible, unapproachable, ළංවිය නොහැකිවූ, unattainable, ප්‍රපත වියනොහැකිවූ.

අනාදානය, a. (අන් ආදානය), not taking, non-acceptance, නොගැනීම, පිළිනොගැනීම.

අනුද්‍රත්ත, a. (අන් priv., උද්‍රත්ත), unaccented, or grave (accent).

අනුද්‍රත්තය, n. grave accent.

අනුමෝදනාව, අනුමෝදන්, n. participation of or satisfaction with the joy or merit acquired, B. P. acceptance of and thanks for offerings made, with benediction also.
